Baltimore City Literacy and Disability Project - U.S. Department of Education awarded MSDE DORS $1.23 million to provide enhanced literacy services to people with disabilities. The five-year demonstration project will bring MSDE and DORS together with the Baltimore City Community College, the Mayor's Office of Employment Development, the Maryland Coalition for Literacy and Making Choices for Independent Living (MCIL).  
Literacy Grant -The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) has been awarded $1.23 million dollars from the U.S. Department of Education to provide enhanced literacy services to people with disabilities served by MSDE's Division of Rehabilitive Services (DORS). This five-year demonstration project will bring MSDE and DORS together with the Baltimore City Community College, the Mayor's Office of Employment Development, The Maryland Coalition for Literacy, and Making Choices for Independent Living (MCIL). Maryland High School/High Tech - U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Disability Employment Policy awarded MSDE DORS a development grant to fund projects that prepare high school students with disabilities for technology-related careers and post-secondary education. The High/School High/Tech project will target youths as young as 15 and include work-based learning activities, onsite corporate field trips, mentoring, job shadowing and summer internships. The Division is eligible to receive up to six years of funding or approximately $1.6 million.More information  
Maryland Youth Leadership Forum - This four day July workshop brings together 30 student delegates who are entering either of their last two years of high school. These students with the whole range of disabilities are selected by their local communities for their leadership potential. More information/application process  
Postsecondary Education Research Center (PERC) Project - coordinated by TransCen, Inc. (www.transcen.org) has launched a website that provides information and resources on college options for students with intellectual disabilities. The site provides answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) related to developing or expanding services for students with intellectual disabilities in college settings. It also provides access to a free online evaluation tool, the PERC Self-Assessment Tool, that allows users to evaluate aspects of programs or services for students with intellectual disabilities on college campuses. This self-assessment tool provides a snapshot of the quality of existing services and provides users with a concise evaluation report. It also provides users with the opportunity to create an itemized action plan to that can be used to address areas in need of improvement More information  
Youth Continuing Disability Review Project - The Social Security Administration awarded a five year cooperative agreement to the MSDE Division of Special Education/Early Intervention Services and the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) for the purpose of developing a model service delivery system to assist youth with disabilities to successfully transition from school to work. National Internship & Scholarship Opportunity for College Students with Disabilities - The Social Security Administration awarded a five year cooperative agreement to the MSDE Division of Special Education/Early Intervention Services and the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) for the purpose of developing a model service delivery system to assist youth with disabilities to successfully transition from school to work.
